God created the earth to be a special dwelling place for the men and women with whom he would establish a covenant relationship (Genesis 1:1-28; 17:7-9; Hebrews 11:3; 1 John 4:20,21)
THE BIBLE IS TRUE
The Bible "Scripture" is the inerrant, inspired, infallible complete record of the revelation of God (His Words for His people), to be a lamp for our feet and a light for our path as we walk through this life (Psalm 119:105; 2 Timothy 3:16).
EVERYONE HAS SINNED
Every person has worth as a creation of God, but we all have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God. "There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by His grace throught the redemption that came by Christ Jesus." (Romans 3:23,24).
JESUS IS THE ONLY WAY TO BE RECONCILED TO GOD
Jesus Christ is the virgin-born, only Son of God who died and was resurrected to life for the forgiveness of the sins of the world, transforming sinners who believe into saints -- His church. Jesus is the only way to be reconciled to God, not because we say so, but because He said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6. (Matthew 1:23; John 3:16; 1 Corinthians 15:1-8).
BELIEVING JESUS REQUIRES US TO CHANGE, TO BECOME TRANSFORMED INTO THE LIKENESS OF CHRIST
Those who accept Jesus as the Lord of their life must confess and repent of their sins, proclaim their faith and be baptized by immersion.* The gift of the Holy Spirit is given to all baptized believers at baptism, which empowers us to be transformed into His spiritual likeness. (John 13:15 & 34,35; Acts 2:38; 8:36; Romans 6:1-4; 1 Peter 1:15-16; 3:18-22).
THE CHURCH IS TO BE A SPIRITUAL HOSPITAL
The New Testament contains a complete, sufficient pattern for the church in the twenty first centry, based upon first-century church. The church is the body of Christ on earth, empowered by the Holy Spirit and it exists to rescue the lost and care for the saved. In other words, the church is a place for the spiritually sick and injured to be healed and nurtured to good spiritual health. (Matthew 9:12 & 28:18-20; Ephesians 4:1-16).
WE ARE TO LOVE GOD, AND LOVE ONE ANOTHER
The diverse members of the "one body" of Christ, united by love, meet together on the first day of the week to worship God together and participate in the Lord's Supper. We are Christians only, but are not the only Christians (Matthew 22:37-38; John 17:20-23; Acts 20:7; Hebrews 10:25).
ELDERS "SHEPHERD" THE CHURCH
Elders are the appointed overseers of Christ's church. These men should possess the qualities and love to inspire, encourage, and teach others to be faithful disciples of Jesus (Mark 10:42-45;1 Timothy 3; Titus 1; Hebrews 13:17).
GOD GIVES SPIRITUAL GIFTS TO EQUIP US TO SERVE OTHERS
Our God-given Spiritual gift(s) should be identified and used to express the love of Jesus to the whole world (Romans 12; 1 Corinthians 12).
THERE WILL BE A FINAL JUDGEMENT DAY AT WHICH POINT EVERYONE WILL EITHER BE JUDGED AS SAVED OR LOST FOR ETERNITY
Any day, Jesus will return to earth for His church and reign forever as the King of Kings, and Lord of Lords. We will then spend eternity in God's presence, in the place called "Heaven!" (Matthew 25:31-46;1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; Revelation 21:1-6). The Good News is--"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God--not by works, so that no one can boast." Ephesians 2:8,9. We are to do good because we are saved, not to be saved! "He who testifies to these things says, 'Yes, I am coming soon.' Amen. Come, Lord Jesus." Revelation 22:20
* Today, various churches "baptize" in various ways, however, some are based more upon their own traditions than upon God's instructions from Scripture. We baptize, as the Bible describes it and the way it was performed when the church of Jesus Christ began 2000 years ago. The believer is lowered momentarily beneath the water (immersed) in the name of The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit for the forgiveness of sin and the promise of eternal life. "Repent and be baptized every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit." Acts 2:38. One then becomes a member of the body of Christ, His church--not just a member of SLCC!
