"What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to them, 'Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,' but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead."James 2:14-17
As you can see from our website, South Louisville Christian Church makes every effort to feed the spiritual soul of everyone with the "Bread" that came from Heaven--the person and teachings of Jesus. But our ministry also includes providing the bread that feeds the bodies of hungry people in our community.
We do this by locating and identifying sources of food that we can use to meet the physical needs of our members and neighbors. We currently receive donations from: our members, Kentucky Harvest, and Dare to Care which we redistribute to satsifiy the physical needs of our neighbors and members. Also, we have recently obtained our 501(c)(3) which will enable us to access additional resources to help meet these needs.
Last year we served 3,974 hot meals and have distributed 34,000 pounds of food to the South Louisville community. We are blessed with members whose faith and actions are working together!
Jesus said, ". . . if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones who is my disciple, truly I tell you, that person will certainly not lose their reward." We give what we receive to others in the name of Jesus, it is His love that compels us to love and care for others.
